Flip the Hoop

I’ve posted other hoop moving games but just because they are easy to set up and allows the students to have lots of repetitions of throwing using various technique here is one more.

Don’t forget to challenge your students in which throwing technique they should use for close/far distances.



Pick a Color-Reaction Game

Using scarves/ bean bags/ anything you might have with a lot of two-three colors this reaction time game looks like a blast.  In the video three colored scarves are tucked in a pylon when the teachers yells a color the students react and try  and grab the scarf first.

The champions stay on one side while the challenger on the other.  Or you could play best 2/3.  The possibilities are endless!

Dice Bonk


Dice Bonk, is a fun throwing game that can be done playing against a partner or playing 2 v 2.  The game is simple and an easy cross curricular activity that tricks them into doing math without even knowing!

How to play:

  1. Put a dice (can get the dice from the video at the Dollar Store) on a pylon in the middle of the gym.
  2. Throw an object at the ball/pylon
  3. If you knock the dice off you go check your score, put the dice back on and go back and record your score.
  4. Add up the math and play again!
  5. Easily done for bowling, underhand throw, over hand throw, soccer passing



Another Physical Educator Game, this is a game that many of us have played numerous times in our PE Classes over the year.  What is great about the Physical Educator is the “builds” or “progressions”.  Builds seem much easier to explain to the students then progressions because like a house we start with the foundation….for this game it is throwing and catching.  Then we build the house until we get the to final game which only comes together once we’ve built everything else up to it.

Again another great and easy game to assess students in.



Frogs & Fish

Joey Feith and the Physical Educator Website should be a go to site for anything PE.  This site the https://thephysicaleducator.com has loads of game ideas, assessment ideas and is just a great resource for improving your PE teaching.

Frogs & Fish is a great build game that starts off very simple with fundamental movement skills and then develops into strategies and game concepts.  It allows you to assess skills and concepts all in the same game.  Check out the video for the builds.



Team Tarps

A teamwork/team building game that involves tarps and balls.  This activity can be easily layered to make it easier or harder.  In this example the teams have to work together without talking to get a ball in each of the 4 holes on the tarp.

Easily adaptable for all grade levels.


Drain the Pool


A simple throwing game that we’ve all played, maybe with a different name.  In pairs or groups one students runs out the middle and throws an object back, if their partner catches it they keep it, if not they run it back to the pool.

Make sure you use various objects to make it more challenging.


4 Corner Bowling

A great team bowling activity.  No need for me to describe with the great visuals above.


Pass & Jump

I am always on the lookout for fun, quick games that can be done with large groups of students or teachers  and even better be done in a classroom as a brain break.  This one is simple enough 30 passes while doing jumping jacks at your table.


  1. Change the activity-jumping jacks, squats, lunges etc
  2.  Change the counting to skip count by 2-4-5-8 to a certain total
  3. Create a passing pattern
  4. Create a challenge–drop it and start over
  5. Create a circuit challenge competition.

Mastermind Relay

The video speaks for its self on a fun cooperative team game that allows your to move but challenges your brain as well.  If you don’t have pylons or poly spots some piece of cardboard would work or even stacking cups would be useful for this game.  The blocks are made out of cut 2 x 4 but like any teacher we can adapt.

The object of the game is the match the pylons in front of the mat to the poly spots on the floor.  Once the pattern is correct in front and behind the student puts a block up to signify it is correct. The first team to get all their blocks standing wins!  Make sure you change the loco-motor pattern or use scooters or benches as different ways for the students to move.
